... the Author, continued.

I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i, then spent nearly a decade living, working and studying in the Netherlands before moving to Chile in late 2011. I work as a writer and photographer for an independent cultural magazine in Santiago and spend my free time traveling, blogging and photographing this amazingly vast and diverse place I have the privilege of calling home.

I think that life is really just the art of knowing when to swerve into the fast lane and when to sit back, relax and smell the roses. I take immense amounts of pleasure in putting myself in situations which are far out of my comfort zone, but also savoring the little things which never fail to make me feel right in my element, whether a perfect espresso, a long conversation with an old friend or sticking my nose in the same old Hemingway novel for the umpteenth time. I value intelligence, beauty, wit, charm and doceur in both sexes alike and I adore people that know how to wing it and enjoy dancing to their own tune. I'm happy as a clam in general but am at my best when enjoying late nights, early mornings, camping trips, long runs, wordy books, a glass of smoky single malt and a few damn fine jazz records. No rest for the wicked.

In case you're wondering, I shoot my photos with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and a Leica D-Lux 5. Oh and no, Joey isn't short for anything.
